61 years have passed since India attained independence. There is no doubt that during these 61 years India has traversed a long path towards progress. India has an old tradition of producing hardworking, diligent and intelligent people. And under the leadership of some such faces India has gained in every field, whether it is technology, industry, agriculture, banking, international politics, national security or anything else. But when we weigh this achievement with what we could have achieved or what others have achieved, our achievement seems to be incomplete and impaired. And the only reason I can deduce for this is improper distribution of the gains and financial non-inclusion. Underdogs remain Underdogs. Few days back I was watching the opening ceremony of Olympics 2008. Apart from the use of technology, I was completely astonished by the synchronization among thousands of performers. I aspire if ever Indians can be so synchronized. But how can they be? When there is not enough confidence among different sections of society to intermingle their thoughts and culture freely, how can they work together? Those who are rich are self sufficient. Every year govt. takes a lot of care for middle class people in its annual budget. But who ever care for people still living under the poverty line. What does govt. do for them except a few relief packages every year which seldom goes to deserving hands?
So my vision for India in 2025 is an India where poorest among the poor can also meet his daily needs, where all have an equal status, where there is no need for reservations anywhere. And there is no need to mention that such an India will be by itself a developed nation.
I know this is a dream. But ‘Dreams transform into thoughts, and thoughts result into action’
I don’t know how much I will be successful towards fulfillment of my vision. But at least I’ll try to contribute as much as I can. Then whether I succeed by 2025 or 2050, it doesn’t matter. The first thing that comes to my mind, being an engineering student, is the development of infrastructure. It is the first platform for a country to develop. Until one has a market to sell his grains how can he earn. India is rapidly coming up with beautiful malls, five star hotels, luxury offices etc. But I don’t count it as a growth of infrastructure. I would like here to appreciate Delhi Metro, which is a luxury available to all at affordable prices. This is infrastructure. I would work towards growth of infrastructure in villages/rural areas, proper schools, hospitals (not just dispensaries), markets, sports complexes etc. this will pull up the unprivileged people without having to migrate to urban places. When people will be more empowered, corruption will also get a set back.
Another factor responsible for lesser growth of India is again lack of intermingling and synchronization of various societies, division of people on the basis of caste, creed and culture which is a direct consequence of narrow mindedness. Terrorism is a great danger for the whole world. The only cause of Terrorism is that a bunch of people think that people of majority sections of society are suppressing them, and hence they want to take revenge. People have backward mentality. They don’t understand that with the advent of globalization, the sense of communalism has lost its importance. It should be an individual feeling but not attached with a group of people. I would like to inject in people a feeling of togetherness.
But just educating people is also not enough. They should also realize that they are equal. E.g. Bihar is facing agony of floods these days. With petty conditions prevailing round the clock at such places how those people can be expected of not having grudges against their govt. or rest of their national brethren. So I being a technologist would work to improve Disaster Recovery Management Systems of our country which are very inadequate even after celebrating 62nd Independence Day. My endeavor shall be to convert these disasters like floods into resources through channelizing the wasteful water. A large number of people, who can add to the power of our country, perish in calamities, accidents and terror attacks before help reaches them.
Today power shortage is a major crucial problem hampering different areas of progress in our country. With increase in number of vehicles on roads, the demand of fuel has drastically increased. But there is a limited supply due to formation of cartel among OEC. This condition if continues to prevail, will certainly some day in future give a sudden brake to whole system.
I being an electrical/electronics engineer have a dream vision of seeing roads with vehicles running on sources like solar power and nuclear power. I will certainly work for researching a technology that will make India self sufficient in power. There already exist some technologies in this field, but they are either very inefficient or costly or not safe enough for public use. But I wish to pursue my dream along with others sharing my opinion, and make India first nation to bring out such a threshold invention.
Last but not the least, I would mention that India as once called golden sparrow. It was not because of riches in gold but due natural resources and strong cultural heritage of our country. Even today some parts of eastern India are so rich in minerals like nuclear elements and petroleum that they can solve major power problems of our country. These resources pricelessly lie unused because of lack of technology to utilize them. There is no value addition to these resources. I would plan to research in this field to bring out India’s hidden treasures.
I would conclude by saying that one person can’t bring a sudden change for country of more than a billion. I can contribute my best by playing my part the best. But the need of the hour is that each one of us should keep this vision. The whole country, its industrialists, politicians and researchers should work with a common aim. And the day when whole country decides to change, I am sure India certainly will be a nation as visualized by poet Tagore in his poem.
